The Brushstroke Circle, Enso

“circle of vast space, lacking nothing, nothing in excess”

interpretation by Shin Jin Mei, sixth century Zen sage

Story of the Logo

As I was starting private practice, I envisioned a circular brushstroke as a logo.  I loved the simplicity of it and was drawn in to learn about this classic zen symbol, Ensō.  It became a teacher and inspiration.

Ensō is a Japanese word meaning “circle”, representing the interconnectedness of all life, the limitless, strength, elegance, and ultimately freedom in the heart and mind.  One interpretation of the open circle symbol is “cutting the desire for perfection and allowing the universe to be as it is”.   Interestingly, this approach of letting go of holding so tightly to what we want or do not want, seems to open the space for things to change.
